  Notes	News and Observer, Raleigh, NC, Wednesday, March 15, 1922 Tries Suicide In Lumberton Jail Travis Bass Attempts To Hang Himself With Necktie and Belt Lumberton, March 14.-Travis Bass, Jr., a young white man who is a prisoner in the Robeson county jail, attempted to commit suicide in his cell. Bass used both his necktie and belt in the effort to ?end it all,? but the belt broke and he was unhurt in the attempt. He tied the necktie to the top of the cell, fastened his belt about his neck and on the tie and jumped off his bunk. However, his weight was too much for the belt. Bass was recently bound over to Superior Court on a charge of the larceny of a preacher?s automobile, stealing the auto from near the church door while the preacher was attending service. His bond was fixed at $2,500, in default of which he was remanded to jail to await the July term of criminal court.
