Lucie A. Bessette, 94, formerly of Pond St., Woonsocket, died Wednesday at Bayberry Commons in Pascoag. She was the former wife of the late Raoul Bessette.
Born in St. David, P.W. Canada, she was a daughter of the late jean Baptiste and Marie (Crepeau) Laliberte. She came to the U.S. in 1922 and was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket.
She was employed by American Tourister in Albion for many years before retiring in 1979. She also worked for the Branch River Mill in Woonsocket, and Glasstite in Providence.
Lucie was a member of the Trinity Club, Parkview Manor Assocaition, Gold Club, and the Young Hearts Club. She was an avid bingo player, and enjoyed dining out an traveling. She was devoted to her extended family and delighted in anything that brought her family together.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jeannine Farrell, of North Smithfield, Pauline Ayotte, of Woonsocket, Therese Garneau, of Quebec, Canada, Louis R. Leveillee, of CT, Nancy Garvey, of NH, Ferdinand Laliberte, of Sherbrooke PQ, Canada, Jacques Chaput, of NY, and Mary Chabot, of NC. She is also survived by many grandnieces and grandnephews. She was the sister of the late Eugene, Claire, Cecile, Marie-Anne, Jean Baptiste, Theodule, Armand, Phillias, Ernest, Samuel, Conrad, and Raoul Lalibert, Aurore Blain, Serevina Sylvestre, Marguerite Leveillee, Marie-Anne Chaput, Therese Ethier, Doralice Paradis.
Her funeral will be Saturday at 10:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyr’s Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham, Visiting hours are Saturday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 am prior to Mass.
