Bass
Bass. ? Another landmark has been removed, who like the giant oak of the forest has stood firm during all the changing scenes of life and defied every storm.
Bro. Everett Bass was born near Barnesville, N.C., February 14, 1931; being 88 years old; and died April 30, 1919, near the place of his birth.
He answered almost the first call to arms in the Civil War and enlisted April 22, 1861, in Co. H., 18th Regiment from Columbus County, and went through the entire war without any wounds.
Soon after the war, or in May, 1867, he married Miss Mary Walters, a neighborhood girl. She was a great helpmeet in those days that tried men?s souls and did her share to help build their home and comfortable living. There were seven children, four of whom are now living in the State of Oklahoma and the others in North Carolina.
In 1872 during a great revival at Bethesda Church, Brother Bass and his wife were happily and powerfully saved. They at once united with the Methodist Church there and remained true and loyal Christians. Dr. J. Sanford was junior preacher then.
Later when KcKendree Church was organized at Barnesville he placed his membership there. He indeed loved the Church and was always willing to do his part in supporting it.
But like the ripened grain he had come to full years and quietly fell on sleep.
He was a good friend of mine and I shall miss him. We know where he is and shall meet again. B.E. Stanfield.

Mr. Ebb Bass, Near Barnesville
Mr. Ebb Bass, aged 88 years, died yesterday afternoon at his home near Barnesville. Deceased had been ill for some time and his death was not unexpected. He served in the Confederate army during the Civil war and was well-known. The funeral was conducted from the home at 3 o?clock this afternoon by Rev. B.E. Stanfield of Chadbourn, and interment was made in the family burying ground.
