Kay A. Othmer (December 24, 1939 - April 12, 2012) Kay A. (Bassett) Othmer was born to Alvin and Florence (McCann) Bassett on December 24, 1939 at Syracuse, Nebraska. She spent most of her early years in the Syracuse and Unadilla area where she attended school and graduated from Syracuse High School. After graduation, Kay worked in Lincoln as a telephone operator for the Lincoln Telephone Company. She was united in marriage to Donald Othmer at the United Methodist Church in Syracuse on August 5, 1960. To this union four children were born. Don and Kay made their home near Tecumseh where they lived on the farm and raised their family. Kay worked as a teacher aide at Hazel Green School, was a cook at Helen's Café in Tecumseh, and retired as a surgical tech for the Johnson County Hospital. Kay enjoyed cake decorating and made many wedding, graduation and birthday cakes over the years. Kay and Don celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2010. In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. Kay loved her family and keeping up with her children's and grandchildren's lives. When her health declined, Kay became a resident of Ridgeview Towers in Tecumseh, later transferring to Belle Terrace. She passed away there on April 12, 2012 at the age of 72 years. She is survived by her husband, Donald Othmer of rural Tecumseh, children, Mike Othmer of Lincoln, Mitch Othmer and wife Lisa of Seneca, KS and Lori Kalin and husband John of Steinauer, grandchildren, Joseph Amen, Terah Widoe, Nicole Othmer, Blake Kalin, Cameron Kalin and Kylie Kalin, great-grandchildren, Addison, Nicholas and Parker, brother, Dennis Bassett and wife Pat of Prescott, AZ, sister, Linda Conkel and husband Mike of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, son, David and brother, Ronald Bassett. Funeral services will be held at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, rural Elk Creek, at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012. Interment will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elk Creek.
