      Connersville, Jan. 29-Eli Bass, 71 years old, one of the most highly respected colored men of this city, and a native of Rush county, is dead at his home here following injuries received last Friday when he was accidentally knocked down by tow men in a friendly scuffle. The men accidentally ran into Mr. Bass and in the fall he sustained a fracture of the skull. He died this morning at two o?clock.
      Mr. Bass will be remembered by many people in Rushville and Rush county. He was born in Carthage and later moved to Richmond. He located here shortly before the war and has been in the barber business at the corner of Central avenue and Court street for forty-two years. He was a member of the Methodist church, the colored Masons and Knights of Pythias lodges. The funeral arrangements have not been completed.
