Death Of Well Known Colored Man
Madison Bass, colored, 61 years of age, died at his home in North Adams street on Monday night at 10:35 o'clock, following a rather lengthy illness from a complication of diseases.
Mr. Bass was one of the best known colored men in this section of the state. He was greatly respected and bore the confidence and esteem of a legion of friends. By hard work in the management of a small dairy he had surrounded himself and his good helpmate with many comforts of life. He was the possessor of considerable property, earned by hard toil.
Mr. Bass was born in Knightstown, and with the exception of a short residence in Rushville and employment for a few years in the state institutions at Richmond and Fort Wayne, had spent his years in his native town.
His father was James Bass and mother Lucinda Bass, natives of North Carolina. He is survived by a wife and two foster sons--Edgar and Floyd Keemer--and one brother, Will Bass, of Carthage.
The funeral was held from the house at 1:30 o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Allen, of Indianapolis. Interment took place at Glencove cemetery.
