Bass, Age 64 of Gordonsville, TN., died Thursday, April; 8, 2010 at Veterans Hospital, Nashville, TN. Mr. Bass was born September 5, 1945 at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, TN., the son of Roberta Thomas and the late Paul B. Bass. He lived in New Middleton until 1951 and had lived in Gordonsville his whole adult life. He was a 1963 graduate of Gordonsville High School and graduated from Cumberland University in 1974. He served in the United States Navy from September 18, 1963 to June 19, 1968 and was a Veteran of the Viet Nam Conflict. He started driving a truck for Ray McKinney in 1975 and later drove cross country trips for Mercer trucking. He then worked for Bass Funeral Home and Gordonsville Cemetery until ill health forced his early retirement. He was an avid reader of books, as he was seen so often sitting in his truck about Gordonsville passing the time reading a book. A strong supporter of the Gordonsville ?Big Blue? and the Commodore ?Black and Gold?. He was a member of the Gordonsville United Methodist Church., Survived by his Mother, Roberta Thomas Bass Payne of Gordonsville. Brothers and Sisters-in-Law: James Robert and Cora Bass of Gordonsville; Billy and Amanda Bass of Carthage and Danny and Annette Bass of Lancaster. Sister and Brother-in-Law, Carol and Mike Finley of Gordonsville. Step-Mother, Oleda Bass Hill of Gordonsville. Uncles: Col. Bernie S. Bass, (USAF, Ret.) of Lebanon and James L. Bass and his wife, Erma of Carthage. Funeral Services for ?Admiral? will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 2:00 P.M., with Bro. Dickie Johnson, officiating and an eulogy by Mark Medley, principal of Gordonsville High School. Interment Gordonsville Cemetery with Bro. George Reed, officiating and Military Honors by the U. S. Navy. The Bass Family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel on Saturday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 12 Noon until service time at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday. Memorials may be made to the Gordonsville Public Library or to the Gordonsville High School Library.
