Mrs. Erma Elizabeth Armistead Bass, age 87 of Carthage, TN, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at the her home. Mrs. Bass was born October 28, 1926 in New Middleton, TN, the Daughter of the late Zach and Nellie Mai Baird Armistead. She was also preceded in death by Son; John Lillard Bass and Brothers; Robert Beasley Armistead and Jackie Baird Armistead. Mrs. Bass married James L. Bass on August 18, 1951 and they were members of the Carthage United Methodist Church.Mrs. Bass graduated in 1944 from Gordonsville High School and in 1947 from Tenneessee Technology Institute. She graduated in 1951 from George Peabody Teachers College for Teachers with a degree in Special Education. Mrs. Bass taught at Hartsville High School, Gordonsville High School, and New Middleton Elementary School. After her career in education she devoted her time to her church, family, and grandchildren.Mrs. Bass is survived by her Husband; James L. Bass of Carthage, TN. Daughter; Jane Elizabeth Bass (Larry) Turner of Carthage, TN, Son; James David (Dawn) Bass of Carthage. Three Grandchildren; Emily Jane Bass, James Gregory Bass, and Lilly Katherine Turner all of Carthage, TN. One step-grandson, Steven Clemons of Carthage, TN.Funeral Services for Mrs. Bass are scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 1PM at the Carthage United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Wallace and Rev. John W. Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in the Gordonsville Cemetery. Visitation with the Bass family will be held on Tuesday from 12 Noon until 8PM and again on Wednesday after 11AM until departure for the church at 12:45pm. The Bass family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials in Mrs. Bass memory be made to the Carthage United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.Bass Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel, Directors.
