Herman Bass Dies; Retired Fire Captain
Capt. Herman Henry Bass, 85, a member of the Nashville Fire Department for 46 years died this morning at a local infirmary. He had been ill since falling March 8.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the Lockeland Baptist Church. The Rev. Hubert White of Rochester, Ky., will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The body is at Cosmopolitan Funeral Home.
Captain Bass, of 2715 Oakland Ave., was born in Watertown but had lived in Nashville most of his life.
He retired from the Fire Department in 1944.
He was married May 20, 1936, to the former Mrs. Loucettia White Davis who survives.
Captain Bass was a deacon at the Lockeland Baptist Church.
Other survivors are there step-sons, Auty George, Dewey George and Homer Davis; two step-daughters, Mrs. Theresa Whitemore and Mrs. William Nenon, all of Nashville; a sister, Mrs. W.R. Bullington, Donelson, and a brother, Rellie Bass, Birmingham.
