DEATH & BUR.: Obituary: "Death Claims John Bassett - Blackfoot, Sept. 8 - John Leroy Bassett, 50, resident of Blackfoot, died at a local hospital [BinghamMemorial Hospital] Friday [7 Sep 1951] at 5:30 p.m. following a month's illness. He was born August 27, 1901 at Malad the son of the late Leroy Bassett and Celia Woodland Bassett. He spent his youth at Lava Hot Springs and [near Alexander] on the Soda Springs Flats. Coming to Blackfoot in 1920 where he was employed on sheep ranches. For the past 13 years he has been employed as a miner at Ouray, Colo. . . . He was unmarried. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Celia Bassett, Blackfoot; three brothers and three sisters, Andrew Bassett, Ouray, Colo.; Frank Bassett, Blackfoot; Ellis Bassett, Fort Bragg, Calif.; Mrs. Lionel Madsen, Shelley; Mrs. Rulon Gough, Blackfoot; and Mrs. Morris Curtis, Salina, Utah."
"Rites Monday For John Bassett - . . . He was home visiting his family when stricken. . . Funeral services were conducted Monday [10 Sep 1951] at 2 p.m. from the Blackfoot Third Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. . . Interment will be in the Grove City Cemetery at Blackfoot under the direction of Sandberg Funeral Home."
