Mrs. Melissa M. Bass
Widow of W. Summerfield Bass Is Buried
Services for Mrs. Melissa McCroy Bass, 74, wife of the late W. Summerfield Bass, who died Wednesday afternoon at the home of W.F. Rice, 2117 Highland avenue, were conducted at the Rice residence this morning at 11 o?clock by Dr. R.L. Owensby, pastor of the Belmont Methodist church of Nashville, Following the services the body was taken to Cook?s Methodist church, on the Lebanon road, where funeral services were held at 1 o?clock, with the Rev. Joseph Webster of the Lebanon road and the Rev. J.H. Shumaker of Nashville. Methodist ministers in charge. Burial was in the family burying ground at Cook?s chapel.
The pallbearers were: Elmer Card, Porter Hamblin, Sam Freeman, Will Bradshaw, Charles Farris, Thomas R. Buford, Garfield Boyd, J.J. Wesson, Dr. Thaxton Gull, J.Y. Hutchinson.
Mrs. Bass was a native of Bedford county, but had spent the greater part of her life at Mt. Juliet. She came to Nashville eight years ago to reside. She had been a member of the Methodist church since girlhood and for ma ny years had been affiliated with Cook?s chapel.
Mrs. Bass had been in feeble health for some time, but had been confined to her bed only a little more than two weeks.
Surviving her are the following children: Mrs. Edgar Curd of Mr. Juliet, Frank S. Bass of Kansas City, Mo., and Harry A. Bass of Martha, Tenn.
