      Vera J. "Betty" Herman

      Vera M. "Betty" Herman, 96, of Lincoln, died Saturday (3/3/07). Born Jan. 16, 1911, in Palmyra to Albert E. and Grace B. (Van Buren) Bassett. Retired from Bryan Memorial Hospital in the special diets department. Member of First Christian Church and the Bryan Memorial Hospital Retirees Club. Vera was a very loving and caring person whose family was the center of her life. She enjoyed gardening, especially her roses. She also enjoyed oil painting and was an accomplished musician.

      Family includes: daughter, W. Yvonne Duggan and special friend Lewis Vandersnick, Lincoln; stepson, wife, Jack and Betty Herman, Green Valley, Ariz.; grandchildren, spouses, Christie D. Carroll-Humanik and spouse Richard Humanik, Robert N. and Debra Carroll, Mark P. Carroll, Greg D. and Karen Carroll, Jeffrey S. and Patricia Baily-Carroll; great-grandchildren, Amy M. Carroll-Oldfield, Braden D. Carroll, Ryan M. Carroll, Mathew P. Carroll, Megan Carroll, Jonathan Carroll, Matthew Baily, Joshua Baily, Adam Baily and Daniel Baily, Mary and Becky Humanik; six stepgrandchildren; great-great-grandchild, Tyler Oldfield; newphews, spouses, Rodger and JoAnn Bassett, Dennis and Patricia Bassett; nieces, spouses, Linda and Kenneth Genthe, Kay and Don Othmer; as well as many loving and loyal friends. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Clifford; brothers, Elvin and Allen; son, Edward Albert "Ted" Kruger, great-great-granddaughter, Morgan Oldfield.

      Services: 10:30 a.m. today, at First Christian Church, 430 S. 16th St., Lincoln, NE 68508. The church parking lot is located off 17th Street, east of the church. Burial: 2:30 p.m. today, Wyuka Cemetery, Nebraska City. Family will greet friends one hour before services, church. Memorials to the church. Peronsal reflections may be left at www.roperandsons.com.
