Robert ?Sam? Levering Bass

Robert "Sam" Levering Bass born in Baltimore Md November 26, 1929, passed away May 17, 2012 after complications from a stroke. Sam served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1966. He retired after serving as a Chief Communications Technician. While faithfully serving his country, Sam received many awards, including a National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Service Medal and a United Nations Service Medal. Sam was stationed in multiple locations including Washington DC, Guam, Japan, Cypress and Alaska. He served aboard the USS Essex, the USS Phillipine Sea, the USS Boxer, the USS Oxford, the USS Vesuvius, and the USS Canberra. After retiring from the Navy, Sam settled in Anderson, CA and was employed as a knife grinder for US Plywood/Champion saw mill.
Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, his dogs and relaxing on his daughter's ranch in Cottonwood where he resided until his death. Sam is survived by his three children: Kathi Prescott, Randi Coonfield, and Kevin Bass. In addition, he leaves behind two loving sons-in-law Dennis Prescott and Jim Cooinfield, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Sam has two devoted sisters in Maryland, Lorraine Willis and Olive Bennett, and nieces and nephews.
Per Sam's request, there will be no funeral services.
