- Obituary ? Bass
Mr. T.D. Bass was one of the men who gave up their lives in the terrible catastrophe that befell our community last Saturday in the explosion of the powder mills. Mr. Bass was born Platteville Feb. 13, 1851. His father was a man of considerable prominence and usefulness in the community. He and Miss Emma Perin were united in marriage, May 14, 1874. Two daughters, now grown to womanhood, and one son, a taercher in Yankton, S.D., were born to them. They lived for several years after their marriage on a farm. Then he was for some time manager of the woolen mill owned by his father. In recent years he was employed in the powder mills, where he met his tragic death last Saturday. He was a member of the Congregational church, also of the Fire Company and of the Lily of the Mound Lodge, No. 6, I.O.O.F. He was a man of good habits and industry, a model husband and father, and was highly esteemed and prized by his friends and fellow citizens. The funeral was held at the family residence Monday afternoon, Rev. C.A. Wight officiating. The members of the I.O.O.F. and the Fire Company also conducted services at the funeral and escorted the remains to the grave. The members of the family have ther profound sympathy of all in their great sorrow and loss.
