James Allen Bass Former Oliver Springs Councilman
James "Jim" Allen Bass, age 50, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was born Feb. 24, 1956, in Harriman and had been a lifelong resident of Oliver Springs.
He was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church and was also a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Bass retired with 29 years of service from BWXT, working at the Y-12 Plant in Building Services. He served as President of both Central Labor Council of Knoxville and S.E.I.U. Local Union No. 166. He was a member of the Omega Masonic Lodge No. 536 F & A.M., and was also a member of the United Way in Knoxville. He was also a former Oliver Springs councilman.
Jim also loved fishing and hunting in his spare time and treasured spending time with his family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elgin Hayes Bass; sister, Alma Faye Brown; paternal grandparents, John and Elsie Bass; maternal grandparents, Lummie and Flora Harness; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lloyd & Freda Russell.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Sherry Russell Bass of Oliver Springs; daughter, Corinna Bass of Oliver Springs; mother, Ozia Harness Bass of Oliver Springs; brother, Terry Bass of Oliver Springs; sisters, Jowana Stinnett of Oliver Springs, Margaret Ledbetter and husband, the Rev. Glenn Ledbetter of Knoxville; special friends, Benny Gilmore of Oliver Springs, Tom Hardy of Lenoir City, and Richard Lewis of Knoxville. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at Sharp Funeral Home with a Masonic service being held at 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at Sharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Ledbetter and the Rev. Don Daugherty officiating. Burial and graveside service will follow at Mineral Springs Cemetery.
Sharp Funeral Home in Oliver Springs is in charge of all the arrangements.
