Funeral services for Nelson Ives Bass, Jr., 72 of Rosenberg, TX, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Rosenberg with the Rev. Jim McConnell officiating. Burial will be in Davis-Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery. Bass was a longtime building contractor in this area. He founded Bass Construction Co. in 1957. Born in Rosenberg on May 30, 1929 to Nelson I. and Maedelle Bass, he went through Rosenberg schools and graduated from Rosenberg High School in 1946. He was a 1950 graduate of Texas A&M University with a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering. He was a captain in the corps of cadets at A&M and served in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant in the Korean War. He was a member of the A&M Former Students Association, Rosenberg-Richmond Chamber of Commerce, and the Fort Bend Builders Association. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Croft Bass of Rosenberg; a son, Bob W. Bass of Sugar Land and his wife, Scotty; and three daughters; Becky Bass Gallimore of Rosenberg and her husband, Tracy; Bridget Bass McWilliams of Houston and her husband, Tim; and Christy Meitzen Tucker of Rosenberg, and her husband, Bo. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Martin of Trinity. There are eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
