Daniel ?Danny? Chester Johnson

Daniel ?Danny? Chester Johnson, age 73, passed away Saturday at Wayne/UNC Health Care in Goldsboro, NC. Born in Wake County, NC, he was the son of the late Neil Chester and Mildred Louise Bass Johnson. Danny was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy Seabees. He served his country with the Navy, earning the rank of CM3, and later joined the Army National Guard. Danny was a former commander with the American Legion Post 11 and was a member of Blackjack Grove Free Will Baptist Church. He faithfully served as a deacon and was on the building and grounds committee of the church. Danny also retired, after 30 years of service, with Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm in Wayne Memorial Park with Rev. Franklin Lane and Rev. Blane Smith officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the United States Navy and The Patriot Guard Riders of NC. A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
Danny is survived by his wife of 24 years, June Gilliam Johnson; his children, Bobby Johnson (Sarah Meier) and Becky Johnson; stepdaughter, Kimberly Lanette Dane; brothers, Eric Johnson and Charles Johnson; sisters, Mary Kimes and Lorraine Leibensberger; grandchildren, Ruby and Lilly Johnson; special furbabies, ?Peanut?, ?Pearl? and ?Cupcake?.
Along with his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his son, Daryl Johnson, and the mother of his children, Cynthia Meeks Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Wounded Warrior Project and Wayne County Animal Shelter.
