Claude Bass, EX-FBI Man, Dies at 74
Claude Ashley Bass, a retired FBI agent and assistant director of the Virginia Law Enforcement Officers Training Standards Commission, died Thursday after a long illness. He was 74.
A native of Petersburg, he was graduated from Crewe High School in 1930. He attended Wake Forest College and received a law degree there.
After practicing law for six months, Mr. Bass joined the FBI, which he served for 33 years until retiring in 1971. He then joined the state training standards commission as its assistant director. He retired from that position in 1978.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anne Helen Bass, a son, Claude A. Bass Jr., and a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Irene Bass Hewitt, all of Richmond.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Laburnum Chapel of Woody's Funeral Home, 2210 E. Laburnum Ave.
