Burwell Manning Bass ?Bill?
A retired supervisor at Red Stick Sand and Gravel with more than 25 years of employment, he died about 7 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 1999, at his residence in Clinton. He was 80. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Clinton, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Visiting at the funeral home, 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. George Threeton and the Rev. Dwayne Rogers. Burial in family cemetery. Survived by his wife, Merle Prithard Bass of Clinton; daughter and son-in-law, Billie Gail and Wayne Mayers of Clinton; four sons and three daughter-in-law, James and Alice Wilkes Bass, Dale and Joyce Womack Bass, and Tom Bass, all of Clinton, and Jerry ?Pete? and Debbie Lee Bass of Greensburg; three sisters, Dolly Chaney of Clinton, Byrdie Miller of Baton Rouge, and Flo Davis of Greensburg; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Charlie and Lily Belle Whittington Bass; a grandson, Jerry Lynn Bass Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Marie Womack Bass. Pallbearers will be Vince Bass, Aaron Musick, Jody Bass, Joel Bass, Robert Bass, Kelly Bass and Wayne Mayers. Honorary pallbearers are W.J. Whitehead, Walter Pace, Jasper Ambrose and Danny Dover. He had a special interest in his portable sawmill.
