Mr. Alden ?Al? Bass
New Era Alden "Al" Bass, age 73, of New Era, passed away peacefully Friday, January 3, 2014 after a ten year battle with cancer and Parkinson's. He was born September 26, 1940 to Donald and Ardele Bass in Belle Plain, Iowa. He married Barbara Thomsen on August 26, 1962.
Al was a graduate of the University of Nebraska and a retiree from Ford Motor Company after a thirty year career. He was a member of Montague United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir there. He was an avid NASCAR fan and one of his favorite toys was a 1940 Chevy Street Rod. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
Al was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Barbara; his children, Craig (Paula) Bass of Chicago, Illinois, Randal (Tracy) Bass of Whitehall; grandchildren, Miles and Charlotte Bass of Chicago and Gabriel and Owen Bass of Whitehall; his brother, Harlan (Viki) Bass of Washington, Utah and his nephew, Michael (Keylee) Bass and their daughter, Kamryn of Sandy, Utah.
The visitation for Al was held Thursday, January 9th, 10 to 11 a.m. at Montague United Methodist Church. A memorial service followed at 11 a.m. at the church.
