Dewey W. Bass
Dewey W. Bass, 88, passed away Monday Aug. 20, 2012, at a local hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Finas and Beulah Bass; brothers, Vestal Bass and Paul Bass; and a nephew, Terry Bass. Dewey was born in Napier, Tenn., and raised in Chattanooga. He graduated from Central High School before serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II and Korea. He wa s a member of St. Elmo United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 148, Lions Club and the East Ridge Masonic Lodge. He was employed at Ace Hardware in Flintstone, Ga., working with his longtime friends, Tina and Mike Keith, and their sons, Adam and B.J.
Survivors include his brothers, John R. Bass, of Temple Terrace, Fla., and Glenn (Judy) Bass; sisters-in-law, Peggy Bass and Betty Bass; nieces, Pat (David) Hamlin, of Chattanooga, Valerie (Wes) Hunt, of Lithonia, Sharon (Bob) Wilkinson, of North Carolina, and Karen (Lamar) Boman, of Georgia; nephew, Tim Bass, of Harrison; and an uncle, Rex Sims, of Rock Spring, Ga.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at St. Elmo United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mark Dowell officiating.
Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Mike Keith, B.J. Keith, Adam Keith, Glenn Bass, Robert Sims and Tim Bass.
The family will receive friends at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Elmo United Methodist Church.
