- J.S. Bass, Pioneer Citizen And Good Man, Passes On
J.S. Bass, 73, one of the best known men and most highly esteemed citizens in Sulphur Springs, died at his home on Texas street early Friday afternoon, following a week?s illness.
Surviving are the following children, his wife having preceded him in death some six years ago; Mrs. Jess Wells of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. B.O. Taylor of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Kenneth Brice, Misses Ola and Lola Bass; all of Sulphur Springs, and also an adopted son, Delwin Bass.
The deceased was an outstanding member of the local Christian Church and was a deacon until recently when he was made elder emeritus of the church.
Funeral arrangements had not been announced at press time.
Funeral Services for J.S. Bass Sunday Afteroon
Funeral services of J.S Bass, who died Friday afternoon at his home on Texas street, will be held at 4:00 o?clock this afternoon at the First Christian Church, with Pastor E.W. Martin in charge.
Burial will follow in the City Cemetery.

Josiah S. Bass was born at Lebenom, Tennessee, Feb. 1, 1866. He moved to Texas in 1876 and was married to Marietta Lowry in 1890, who died Sept. 18, 1933.
The following children survived; Mrs. Jess Wells of Sulphur Springs, Mrs. B.O. Taylor of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Kenneth Brice, Misses Ola and Lola Bass, all of Sulrphur Springs, and also an adopted son, Delvin Bass.
