In Memory of Dorothea Evelyn (Bass) York
Dorothea Evelyn (Bass) York, 94, passed away early Thursday morning on October 21, 2021 at the Long Term Care Unit in Satanta, Kansas. She was born on April 15, 1927 to Edna Hawkins (Pittman) and Asa Gilbert Bass in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
Dorothea was a telephone operator before marrying Milo Gale York on June 13, 1952 in Goldsboro, North Carolina. They began building a life together in Goldsboro before moving to Johnson, Kansas where they would live on the family farm and raise their five children. In 1979 she and Milo moved to Colorado where they purchased and operated multiple ranches before retiring in Coaldale, Colorado. A desire to be closer to family caused Dorothea to move several times after Milo passed in 1996. She settled in Sublette in 1999 and lived in Haskell County until her passing. Dorothea found joy in china painting, sewing, charity work and was devoted to her family and her faith in God. She enjoyed her travels all over the globe and had many unique experiences.
She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy Card of Iowa, Jan Riddick of Lamar, CO, and Shirley Appleton of Topeka, KS; sons, Douglas York and wife Cynthia of Colorado Springs, CO, and Peter York and wife Roberta of Sublette, KS; and her beloved fifteen grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren.
She is preceded death by her husband, Milo York; parents, Asa and Edna Bass; two grandsons; sisters, Martha Jane Williamson, and Rachel Bass; brothers, Gilbert, James and Samuel Bass.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at the Weeks Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1547 Road 190, Sublette, KS 67877.
Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25th, 2021 at the Stanton County Cemetery with Pastor Elizabeth Winger Young officiating. Friends are invited to join the family for lunch following the service at the community building on the grounds.
