Kathleen Bass Holdren
Kathleen Bass Holdren, 84, of Chelyan, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at CAMC General Hospital, Charleston, after a long illness. Kathleen was a Protestant and a retired schoolteacher from Kanawha County Board of Education, having taught for over 22 years at Leewood Jr. High School and East Bank Jr. High School. She was a member of the National Education Assoc. and she was Secretary and Treasurer of the Archery Club.
She was preceded in death by sons, Samuel Bass and Rex Holdren and daughter, Sue Thurman.
Surviving are husband, Obed Holdren at home; son, Robert "Bob" Bass and his wife, Wanda, of Cedar Grove; daughters, Lora Lezark of Louisville, Ky., Nancy Romeo and her husband, Thomas, of Charleston, Donna Creasey and her husband, Jan, of Chelyan, and Colleen Grooms and her late husband, Dwayne, of Rand; brother, Harvey Breeden and his wife, Joyce "Babe," of Mammoth; sisters, Rachel Dawson of Shrewsbury, and Wanda Smoot and her husband, Boyd, of Belle; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Service will be Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Cooke Funeral Home Chapel, 600 Old Fort St., Cedar Grove, with Pastor Arnold Sheets officiating. Burial will follow the services in Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens, Glasgow.
Friends may call Thursday, June 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cooke Funeral Home, 600 Old Fort St., Cedar Grove.

Obed Holdren, 95, of Chelyan, formerly of Cannelton, passed from this life on October 9, 2016, at Hubbard Hospice House Care, after a short illness.
Obed was preceded in death by wife, Kathleen; parents, Harry and Clara Holdren; daughter, Suzanne; son, Rex; and step-son, Sam; brothers, Kermit Holdren and Kenneth Holdren; sisters, Imogene Kees, Emmelene Hall, Madeline Holdren and Evelyn Ramsey.
Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Colleen Washington (Lawrence); daughter, Donna Creasey (Jan); brother, Harry "Bill" Holdren; sisters, Julie Christy, Linda Johnson, Charlene Wriston, and Edna Reyes; step-children, Robert Bass, Lora Lezark, and Nancy Romeo; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A retired coal miner and decorated U.S. Army veteran, Knothole, as he was known around the Valley, enjoyed hunting, raising a garden, and spending his summers fishing on Smith Mountain Lake, where he was known as WV Shorty. Many days you could find him tooling around town on his side-by-side always ready to share one of his many stories.
Service will be held 1 p.m., Friday, October 14, at the Kanawha Valley Memorial Gardens Chapel, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The service will be officiated by Minister Lawrence E. Washington and Reverend Richard R. Bullard. Military rites provided by the United State Army representatives and American Legion Post 61.
