Funeral services for Sammie Mercille Bass, 91, of Coushatta, LA will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Olan McLaren officiating. Interment will follow in Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Bass was born January 31, 1928 in Coushatta, LA and passed away March 25, 2019. Mrs. Bass retired from AT & T as a telephone operator. She then continued her career after graduating from Northwestern School of Nursing as a nurse for the clinic and hospital in Coushatta, LA. She enjoyed music, especially playing the bass guitar alongside her husband, Bass. Together, they enjoyed traveling, fishing and boating. She loved her grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Cecil Bamburg; grandson, John Wesley Bamburg; parents; one brother and four sisters.
Mrs. Bass is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jesse Bass of Coushatta, LA; children, Brenda Cottom and husband, Ed of Bossier City, LA, Billy Dirks and wife, Yvonnie of Greenwood, LA, and Terry Dirks of Ringgold, LA; four grandchildren, Jason Cottom, Brittney Trahan, Amanda Powell, and Hannah Dirks; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be George Carney, Jimmy Smith, Stephen Hanna, Josh Trahan, Jason Cottom, and Leroy Smith.
