Messiers Wed 57 Years; Day Spent Quietly
Husband Worked at Chicopee Manufacturing; Wife was a Bessette
Chicopee, July 22. Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Messier of 12 Chapman St., observed their 57th wedding anniversary today but because of the recent death in North Adams of Mrs. Messier’s brother. The anniversary was spent quietly at home.
Mr. Messier, 77, a native of Ruxton Falls, Canada, and a retired textile worker employed for 17 years at the Chicopee Manufacturing Corp. mill in Chicopee Falls. His wife, the former Albina Bessette, is 79 and a native of St. Plouis, P.Q.
They were married July 22, 1896, in Church of Notre Dame in Adams and have resided in Chicopee for more than 25 years. They have two children, Wilfred J. Messier, former school committeeman of Chicopee and MRs. Henry Kowaleski of Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Messier is a member of the Sacred Heart Society of the Assumption parish and Mrs. Messier has been active in the Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association and the St. Ann’e Society of Assumption Parish.

Chicopee, June 22 – Mr. and Mrs. Clovis N. Messier of 12 Chapman street will observe their golden wedding anniversary tomorrow. After an anniversary mass at 10.30 at Assumption church on Springfield street, a reception will be held for immediate members of the family.
“Open House” will be held tomorrow afternoon from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 10 in the evening, 7 Gilmore street.
Mr. and Mrs. Messier were married in Notre Dame Church, Adams, by the late Rev. L.L. Triganne. They have two children, Wilfred J. Messier, a member of the school board, and Mrs. Kowalewski of Baltimore, Md., and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Clovis N. Messier
CHICOPEE – Mrs. Albina (Bessette) Messier of 12 Chapman St. died Saturday in Mercy Hospital, after a long illness. She was born in Canada and had made her home here for the past 35 years. She was a member of St. Anne Society of Assumption Church and the LCBA. She leaves her husband, Clovis N. Messier, a son, School Committeeman Wilfred J. Messier, a daughter, Mrs. Dora Kowalweski of Catonsville, Md.; a sister, Mrs. Alphonsine Barber of Manchester, N.H.; five grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Grise funeral home Tuesday at 8:15, with a solemn requiem high mass in Assumption Church at 9. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visting hours are today and Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10.

Retired Textile Worker Married 56 Years Today
Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Messier to Observe Anniversary Quietly at Home
Chicopee, July 21 – Clovis N. Messier, a retired employee of the Chicopee Manufacturing Corp., of 12 Chapman St., Chicopee Center, and Mrs. Messier will observe their 56th wedding anniversary at their home tomorrow. The elderly couple will be greeted by friends informally at an anniversary mass in the Church of the Assumption as has been their practice for many years.
Mr. Messier before taking employment 17 years ago at the Chicopee Falls textile plant was engaged as a caretaker at the Assumption Church.
He and Mrs. Messier, whose maiden name is Albina Bessette, were married on July 22, 1896, in Notre Dame Church in Adams. They have resided in Chicopee for more than 25 years.
Mr. Messier is 76 and was born in Ruxton Falls, Canada, Mrs. Messier, 77, was born in St. Louis, P.Q. They are the parents of Wilfred J. Messier, former Chicopee school committeeman, and Mrs. Henry Kowaleswki of Baltimore, Md.. They have five grandchildren.
Mr. Messier is still an active member of the Sacred Heart Society of the Assumption parish and his wife was formerly active as a member of the Ladies’ Catholic Benevolent Association and the St. Anne’s Society of the Assumption Parish.
