Bobbie Ray Bass
Bobbie Ray Bass Sr., 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, of Elm City passed away early morning Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010. He was born in Wilson County and was the son of the late William "Buddy" Bass and Pearl Wells Bass. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Linda Bottoms Bass, daughter, Barbara Ellen Bass, and brother, William "Doodle" Bass. He retired both from the United States Air Force as a SMSGT and Allied Maintenance of Firestone.
Bobbie is survived by his wife, Bonnie Davis Bass; daughters, Merry Hope Bass Asbell and husband, Ken, of Elm City, Leigh Paulette Bass McOmber and husband, Clay, of Winterville; two sons, Bobbie Ray Bass Jr. and wife, Connie, and Raymond Lee Bass and wife, Holly, both of Wilson; nine grandchildren, Jeff Webb, Mandy Webb, Rachel, Hannah, Faith and Trey McOmber, Skyler and Brooklyn Bass, and Brandon Tew; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Ethan Brinkley; three step-sons, Tony Davis, Steve Davis and Rodney Davis and wife, Sami, all of Fremont; sister, Jeanette Joyner and husband, Jasper; brother, Milton Bass and wife, Joyce; sisters-in-law, Docky Bass and Mollie High and husband, Stevie; brother-in-law, Paul Bottoms; step sister-in-law, Betty Phillips and husband, Glen; step brothers-in-law, Hilton Petway and wife, Dalen, and Milton Petway and wife, Linda; and an aunt, Eula Adams.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 and the funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010 at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Wells and Stanley Hite officiating; burial to follow in the Peoples Chapel Church Cemetery, Elm City with Military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cox-Putney American Legion Post 153, PO Box 1, Elm City, NC 27822 or to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.
