Wayne E. Bass, January 27, 2008
Wayne Bass, age 84 of Joplin, passed away at his home at 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008 after a long illness.
Born September 9, 1923 in the Iron Gates community West of Joplin, he was the son of the late Mr. Malery Bass and Nell Morrison Bass and lived in the Joplin area his lifetime. For 31 years, he was employed by Gas Service Co., retiring in 1989 as a Pressure Man.
His favorite pastime was watching sports (preferably basketball). He enjoyed gardening (his specialty was tomatoes). He built birdhouses for many of his family and friends. He also was a master animal trapper (as any squirrel, mole or any rodent soon found if they appeared in his yard).
His first wife, Mary Jane Wheat Bass, preceded him in death on January 28, 1986.
He is survived by wife, Betty Riley Bass, of the home.
Survivors include a son, Mal Bass of Irving, TX; three grandchildren, Susan, Ann and Janet; five great-grandchildren; stepson, Jack Clayton and wife Kay of Joplin; three stepdaughters, Cindy Maddox and husband Mike of Joplin, Marilyn Clayton of Neosho, Jackie Tilton and husband Lonnie of Neosho.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30th at Ozark Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Simon officiating. Pallbearers will be Jack Clayton, Nick Maddox, Jared Maddox, Shane Chew, Lonnie Tilton and Nathan Wood. Memorial contributions may be made to Regional Hospice in care of Parker Mortuary.
