New Forest Ranger Named at Ahoskie
AHOSKIE ? Kader W. Bass is the new Hertford County forest ranger.
His appointment was announced by the State Forestry Service from three names recommended by the Hartford County Commissioners.
Another name in the recommended list, Charles M. Edwards of Menola, was appointed tractor operator.
Bass had worked for the past five years with the Hertford County forestry department under John R. Jordan who was forced to retire July 1 because of his age. Bass had filled jobs as assistant tower operator, smoke chaser and tractor operator.
Edwards was worked with the forestry department for the past years a s smoke chaser and relief tower operator.

Kader W. Bass
JAMESVILLE - Kader William Bass, 72, of the 2100 block of Main St., died May 6, 2001, at his home.
He was born June 5, 1928 in Powellsville, N.C., moving to Jamesville in 1965. He was the son of the late Kader W. Bass and the late Blanche Harrell Bass. He was a member of Jamesville Christian Church.
Survivors are his wife, Helen Waters Bass; daughters, Pat Gurganus of Plymouth and Helen Scemama of Williamston; son Kader W. Bass Jr. of Virginia Beach; sisters, Blanche B. Perry of Raleigh, N.C., and Frances A. Bass of Britthaven Nursing Home in Washington, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie B. Perry formerly of Bartow, Fla.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Biggs Funeral Chapel, Williamston. Burial will follow in Jamesville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Memorials may be made to Jamesville Rescue Squad or the Jamesville Christian Church.
