Born in Robeson County, N.C., he was a son of the late Steven and Sally jean Bass. Mr. Bass was a retired carpenter and a member of Wayside Baptist Church. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Jennie Nealey Bass; four daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Long of Willcox, Ariz., Mrs. Ruby Lee Myles of Wilmington, N.C., Mrs. Hazel Locke of Dountain, Fla., and Mrs. Carolyn Mills of Loris; a brother, Luther Bass of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hardwock Funeral Home, with burial in Cushion Swamp Cemetery.
