Death of Mr. Elijah Bass a Shock to Community ? Preaching Sunday
Fairmont R.2, Aug. 18.-Oak Dale community was greatly shocked Saturday night about 9 o?clock at the sudden death of one of its most beloved citizens, Elijah Bass. Funeral services were conducted from the home Sunday at 4 p.m. by a former pastor of Oak Dale church, Rev. Paul Britt, and interment was in the family plot near the home, under a beautiful mound of flowers, which showed the respect the community held for Mr. Bass. He was kind, neighborly and liked by those who knew him.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mollie Hill Bass, and the following children: Fred, Hallon, Jenerette and Eddi Carl, of the home, and Mrs. Clayton Stevens, Mrs. Ed Johnson and Mrs. Lancaster Calder; 1 sister, Mrs. Lennon Foley of Barnesville; and 1 brother, Arch Bass of Lumberton.
Active pallbearers were Proctor Morgan, Herbert Morgan, Brade Bass, Ben Arnett, and Legrand Collins. The many pretty flowers were carried by Vernon Ivey, Doris Morgan, Nellie Cox, Ada Hill, Gladys Hill, Lois Spivey, Orpie McElveen, Inez Ivey, Juanita Johnson and Mrs. Luther Hill.
