      James Franklin Bass

      Funeral services for James Franklin Bass, 69, father of Mrs. Donald P. Whitley of Durham, were held at 4 p.m. today at the Joyner Funeral Home at Wilson. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.
      He died yesterday at the Wilson Memorial Hospital from burns he suffered early Sunday when his mobile home burned.
      Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Whitley and Mrs. Hilton Shackleford of Wilson and Mrs. Trencie Whitman of Laurel; three sons, Frank Bass Jr. of Norfolk, Va., William Douglas Bass of Petersburg, Va., and Glenn Ray Bass of Chicoteague, Va.; his mother, Mrs. Flora Mae Bass of Wilson; two sisters, Mrs. Rex Best of Stantonsburg and Mrs. Ruth Williams of Kenly; three brothers, Norbert Bass of Raleigh, Jack Bass of Washington and Larry Bass of Wilson; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
