Jean Bass Burns
Jean Bass Burns, 76 of Lynchburg, was peacefully called away by Heaven's Angels on Thursday, October 14, 2021. Born in Charlottesville January 13, 1945, to the late Bascomb Claude Bass and Ethel Sandridge Bass. She was the devoted wife of the late James Odell Burns, Sr. for forty-nine years. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was also preceded in death by five brothers, Edward Bass, Carroll Bass, David Bass, Ronald Bass, and James Bass; and a grandson, Jamie Lee Burns.
Jean is survived by her three children, James Burns, Jr. (Elena) and Kent Burns (Karen) all of Lynchburg, and her daughter, Lisa Burns Clark (Barry) of Forest; four beloved granddaughters, Danelle Clark of Buena Vista, Kate Burns (Ashley Bisnett) and Anna Burns all of Lynchburg, and Aura Ferguson (John) of Springfield, Oregon. She is also survived by a brother, Michael Bass of Madison Heights; a brother-in-law, five sisters-in law, and too many nieces and nephews to count, but all of whom held a special place in her heart. Jean also leaves behind her special friend and beau, Wayne Hollie, with whom she created so many special memories, and who's extended family became a big part of her life, kept her on the move and kept her spirit young during her last years. And of course, we cannot forget Diva, Jean's sweet little furbaby companion, whom she loved dearly.
Jean was hard working and instilled great work ethics in her children and grandchildren. She retired from life of Georgia where she worked as an insurance agent for many years and truly enjoyed working with her clients and their families. She also worked for many years at Big Star grocery store as a cashier and produce clerk. She was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church for about the last twenty years, several churches prior to that, and was a charter member of Leawood Baptist Church. Jean was also a member of Lyn-Dan Heights Ruritan Club for many years, and was a very enthusiastic participant whenever they had a fundraising event.
Jean loved to travel and experienced many trips both stateside an abroad, such as Hawaii, California, Europe, many beaches and various cruises, etc. However, her favorite trips were always with family, and especially all the visits to the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge Area of Tennessee, where she loved to shop and go to the shows. She had a passion for doing things for others and was always a "take charge" kind of person. She could put together a fabulous family picnic almost single-handedly like no other, or even a larger event in no time at all, like a pro.
The family will receive friends, noon ? 1:00 p.m., Monday, October 18, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory. A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m., in the funeral home chapel, officiated by the Rev. Jonathan Falwell. Interment will follow at Virginia Memorial Park, officiated by the Rev. Rick Rasberry.
Jean was a charitable person and always wanted to contribute to a worthy cause whether big or small. With that in mind, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Park View Mission, Shriners Hospitals for Children, or a charity of your choice.
