  Notes	Man Lying on County Road Killed Near Grand Island World-Herald News Service Grand Island, Neb. ? A young man who celebrated his 20th birthday Tuesday was killed about 3 a.m. Wednesday when he was struck by a car on a county road about nine miles northwest of Grand Island, the State Patrol said. Officers said Kenneth Duane Tierney, Grand Island, was lying in the middle of the road when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by Dale Gewecke, 49, Grand Island. Gewecke told officers he was westbound at the time and died not see Tierney in time to avoid hitting him. Hall County Atty. Sam Grimminger said the youth apparently was returning to Grand Island on foot after visiting his girlfriend on a farm outside of town. Tierney had been driven to the girl?s home by a friend, Grimminger said. He said Tierney, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Tierney, Fargo, N.D., was discharged from the Navy about a month ago and was living with a brother in Grand Island. he was unemployed. An autopsy is being performed, the county attorney said.
