Thomas William Bass
Thomas William Bass, affectionately known by many as Tommy, was born on November 7, 1943, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and passed away peacefully on June 25, 2023, in Slidell, Louisiana at the age of 79. Tommy was a devoted family man, a dedicated worker, and a passionate enthusiast of gardening, fishing, and history.
Tommy is the beloved husband of Sherry Scogin Bass and cherished son-in-law to his mother-in-law, Norma Scogin. Tommy was also a loving brother-in-law to Jan Bell (Ronnie). He was a proud and loving father and stepfather to his children and stepchildren, Karen Barton (John), Tassy Phillips (Dustin), Michael Raymond (Jacque), Starr Folden (Glenn), Amy Bourland (Roger), Sean Bass, Miranda Matte (Steven), Marc Budyach (Amanda), and Angelique Troelstrup (Mark). Tommy was also a doting grandfather and great-grandfather to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and he was deeply loved in return.
Tommy was predeceased by his son, Timmy Bass; his brothers, Ronald Bass (Marie) and Wayne Bass (Fran); his sister, Gloria Jenkins (Johnny); and his father-in-law, Gerald Scogin.
Tommy received his high school diploma and proudly served in the United States Navy for six years. His commitment to service and his country was a testament to his character and sense of duty. Following his military service, Tommy embarked on a long and rewarding career working for the railroad in Denver, South Carolina, and New Orleans. He retired as a superintendent with CSX in New Orleans, where he was known for his hard work and dedication.
Tommy had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid gardener, finding peace and satisfaction in nurturing plants from seed to bloom. His love for the outdoors included fishing and camping, activities he enjoyed with his family and friends. Tommy was a history enthusiast, always eager to learn more about the world's past and share his knowledge with others.
Beyond his work and hobbies, Tommy was known for his kindness, his sense of humor, and his unwavering loyalty to his family and friends. He was a source of strength and support for many and will be remembered for his generous spirit and his warm, welcoming smile.
Tommy's life was a testament to his values of hard work and family. His love for his family, his dedication to his work, and his passion for his hobbies enriched not only his life but also the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Audubon Funeral Home in Slidell. A funeral service will begin in the chapel at 3:00 p.m. Tommy will be laid to rest in a private burial in the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
