Born in Conway, he was the son of Ray Coye Bass and the late Gracie Lee Bone. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an avid outdoorsman and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his father and stepmother, Sherrill Kraft; daughter, Gracie Lee Bass of Columbia; brothers, Ray Wallace Bass of Orlando, Fla., Gregory Scott Bass of Easley; sister, Della Bass Stephens of Irmo. He was predeceased by a son, James Robert Bass, and a sister, Deborah Lee Godfrey.
