  Notes	Winston-Salem Journal, North Carolina, Monday, 22 October 1979 Bass PILOT MOUNTAIN ? Mrs. Bessie Johnson Bass, 83, of Mt. Airy, Rt. 8, died at Silas Creek Manor in Winston-Salem Saturday afternoon after a long illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday at Pine Hill Friends Baptist Church by the Rev. Ray Lambe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Cox Funeral home until placed in the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the services. Mrs. Bass was born in Surry County to Soloman and Annie Hutchens Johnson and was a member of Pine Hill Friends Church. Surviving are her husband, Emory Bass; three daughters, Mrs. Louise Brown and Mrs. Sylvia Goldin both of Winston-Salem, and Mrs. Ottis Chilton of Mt Airy Rt. 3; five sons, Claude Bass of Hampton, Va., Garle Bass of Greensboro, Charlies Bass of Winston-Salem, and Worth and Jack Bass of Mt. Airy; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. John Mosley of Mt. Airy Rt. 8, Mrs. Eliza Chilton of Ararat, and Mrs. Ida Short of Siloam; four brothers, Brady and Thomas Johnson of Rt. 7 Mt Airy, Dixie and J. Van Johnson both of Rt. 8 Mt. Airy. Any memorials may be made to Pine Hill Friends Church or to a charity of the donor?s choice.
