Shadron K. Bassett
January 12, 1971 - October 7, 2005
Deputy Sheriff Shadron K. Bassett, 34, 908 North Agnew St., Winamac, died October 7, 2005 near the Intersection of C.R. 300 N. and S.R. 39. He lost control of his patrol car while on an emergency call early Friday morning.
Shadron was born January 12, 1971 in Monticello, and was the son of Ron and Penny Brummett Bassett. On November 9, 2002 in Delphi, he married Shannin M. Whitaker who survives.
He was a Deputy Sheriff with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department for the past three years and had been a former employee of the Braun Corporation for 10 years.
He was a 1990 graduate of Knox High School and was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2004. He was a member of the Church of the Heartland (formerly known as the Life Center) in Winamac. He enjoyed working on his Mustang. He loved being a husband and father. He was loved by many. He enjoyed police work and was a dedicated police officer.
Survivors, along with his wife Shannin, are a daughter, Madysen I.R. Bassett of Indianpolis; two step-daughters: Dakota L. Heims, and Julianna K. Heims, both of WInamac. Also surviving are his parents Ron (Kathy) Bassett of Monticello, and Penny (Tony) Pigecella of Delphi; paternal grandmother, Nancy Jane Bassett of Malcolm, Neb.; maternal step-grandmother, Janet Pigecella and paternal step-grandmother Yara Blubaugh, both of Monticello; three sisters, Brukentta (Justin) Crichfield of Idaville, and Cynaka (Darren) Carr, and Sharim Pigecella, both of Delphi; two brothers: Matthew Bassett of Monticello, and Nathan (Tasha) Arbuckle of Delphi, and many other loved ones.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the church of the Heartland in Winamac, with Pastor Health Hiatt officiating. Burial took place in the McKinley Memorial Gardens in Winamac. Frain Mortuary in Winamac was in charge of arrangements.

Pulaski County deputy killed in crash
MEDARYVILLE, Ind. - A Pulaski County sheriff's squad car spun out of control and ran into a tree today, killing the deputy insde, police said.
Deputy Shad Bassett, 34, of Winamac was responding to a call when the crash happened about 12:15 a.m. on Ind. 39 in a rural area about 50 miles north of Lafayette. He was pronounced deat at the scene of massive head injuries.
A preliminary investigation by Indiana State Police did not find a reason for why Bassett's car left the roadway, going into a drainage ditch before hitting a tree at the driver's side door.
Police said Bassett was wearing a seat belt.
Pulaski County Sheriff Paul Grandstaff described Bassett as a "happy-go-lucky kind of guy."
"He was easy to work with, and he did his job," he said.
Bassett had been a sheriff's deputy for two years. He is survived by a wife and three children.
