PULASKI, Va., Feb. 10 – The worst tragedy in the history of Pulaski occurred there Sunday night when W. M. Bassett, a merchant of East Pulaski, shot and killed his wife, shot his 18-year-old granddaughter twice through the leg as she tried to escape, inflicting probably fatal injuries, and then shot himself through the head. He was still alive last night.
Bassett is about 66 years of age, formerly worked at a foundry here but lately had a store in East Pulaski. He was reputed an exceedingly quiet man but lately is said to have been quarrelsome and was punished some time since shooting in the vicnity of his premises.
It is the general opinion that his mind was disordered when he did the shooting Sunday.
