C.E. Bass Passes Away Tuesday At Waverly Hospital
Funeral Services Held Today for Long Time Resident of Anselmo
C.E. Bass, Anselmo merchant, died at Waverly, Nebraska at seven O?clock Sunday morning. The body was shipped to Anselmo, arriving there this morning and funeral services will be held this afternoon. Interment will take place in the Broek Bow cemetery where other members of Mr. Bass? family are buried.
The body was accompanied by Dr. T.W. Bass and W.W. Bass of Lincoln, brothers of the deceased.
Elmer Bass, as he was familiarly known, has been a resident of Custer county practically all of his life.
For many years Elmer Bass was a resident of Brocke Bown, and later moved to Anselmo, where he followed the general merchandise business and in which he was engaged when he died.
He has always been a leading and progressive citizen imbued with that degree of public spirit which is so essential in the advancement of the community. He was a good business man and a popular citizen who enjoyed the utmost respect and confidence of those who were fortunate enough to have his acquaintance. For some time he has been in failing health and had spent many weeks confined to his bed before death claimed him.
Charles Elmer Bass, second son of Alexander and Lamira Bass, was born in Warrick County, Indiana, January 19, 1870, and passed away at Waverly, Nebraska, October 12, 1930, aged 60 years, eight months and 23 days.
In November, 1883, he moved with his parents to Hamilton county, Nebraska, and in 1889 the moved to Custer county, where he has resided most of the time, being engaged in the mercantile business in Anselmo.
On December 24, 1895, he was united in marriage to Norma Fenner at Broken Bow and to this union four children were born, three of whom survive, Clair, Opal, and Lawrence, all residing in Los Angeles, Calif.
In March, 1923, he was united in marriage to Katherine Leonard of Anselmo, who survives. He also leaves four brothers and two sisters, Dr. T.W. of Lincoln, J.G. of Kansas City, A.C. and W.W. of Lincoln; Mrs. Rose Richardson of Thedford and Mrs. Lillie Lewis of Arnold.
He was Past Master of the Anselmo Masonic Lodge A.F. & A. M., a member of the Eastern Star lodge of Anselmo, Scottish and York Rites of Omaha and the M.W.A. and M.B.A. lodges of Anselmo.
