Dorothy (Waters) Bassett
August 16, 1921 - May 29, 2017
Dorothy Arlene Waters Bassett passed away peacefully on Monday, May 29th in Meriden, Connecticut where she was a local resident for over 40 years. She was born in Newtown, Connecticut to Dora Alice Gilbert Waters and Sidney Emerson Waters Sr. on August 16th, 1921 and grew up in Danbury, Connecticut, where she and her late husband, Raymond Louis Bassett of West Redding, Connecticut married and raised their two cherished sons, the late Leroy Albert Bassett of Meriden, Connecticut and Robert Louis Bassett of Palm City, Florida. She was 95 years old at time of passing and was preceded by eight of her siblings; Jean Alice Waters Corry, Morris Emerson Waters, Hurland Gilbert Waters, George Franklin Waters, Harry Emerson Waters, Charles Ira Waters, Edwin Waters, Sidney Emerson Waters Jr. Her youngest sister, Agnes Mae Waters Bowne, 93, resides in Salisbury, New Hampshire.
Dorothy will always be remembered for her unconditional love for her family and devotion to her beloved husband, "Pop", along with her positive spirit and kind hearted nature. "Do unto others as you would have done to you," was a favorite motto and one by which she lived. She always had a smile and enjoyed sharing her "gift of gab," as she called it, while working part time for many decades at her late son Lee's business, Bassett Hearing Aid Center, in Meriden, Connecticut.
She is survived by her loving son Robert Bassett and daughter in law, Linda Phillips Bassett, daughter in law, Mary Bassett, grandchildren; Ryan David Bassett and wife Caris Bassett, Kristin Dawn Bassett McGee and husband Craig Mcgee, Jonathan Phillips Bassett, Tammy Bassett Burt and husband Timothy Burt, Michele Bassett, Deborah Bassett and several great grandchildren; Jacob Burt, Madison Burt, Avery Bassett, Briggs Bassett, Paxton Bassett, Madeline McGee and Lindsay McGee. The family is ever grateful for the many wonderful years spent through the generations with this incredibly sweet and special lady with a heart of gold.
Dorothy will be buried next to her husband in the Center Cemetery, Bethel on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at 10:30.
