C.H. Bassett Dead
C.H. Bassett, aged 53, a well-known resident of this city and prominent as a railroad man, died at the Troy City Hospital last evening.
Although he was born in Fort Schuyler, he had been a resident of Mechanicville for the past 36 years. He was a valued employee of the B. and M. Railroad where he had been chief yard clerk and his death will be a shock to a wide circle of friends.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Fred and Lewis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o?clock. The Rev. D.P. O?Dell and the Rev. A.M. Prentice will officiat.
The bearers will be from the Royal Arch Mason, Bloss Council of which he was a member and the Railroad clerks. Burial will be in the Albany Rural cemetery.

Death of Charles Bassett
Well Known Railroad Official Dies After Long Illness
Charles H. Bassett, one of the city’s most highly esteemed citizens and best-known railroad men, died last Friday evening at a Troy hospital where he had gone for treatment after a long illness. The deceased was 53 years of age and had resided in Mechanicville for the past 30 years. He was born in Port Schuyler.
He was a valued employe of the Boston & Maine railroad and had been chief yard clerk for a number of years. He was a man who took a deep interest in civic affairs and was a member of the former village’s board of health. Many friends will extend condolences to the bereaved family. The survivors are his wife and two sons, Fred H. Bassett and Lewis Bassett; two half-brothers, F. A. Stevens of Watervliet, and John Bassett, of Fitchburg, Mass.
The deceased was a member of On-da-wa Lodge, No. 820, F. and A. M. On-da-wa Chapter, Nov. 297, R.A. M. of Mechanicville, and Bloss Council of Troy. He was also a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks and for many years a member and officer of the Memorial Baptist church.
Funeral services were held from the Baptist church on Tuesday after noon at 2:30 o’clock and were conducted by Rev. D. P. Odell, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. A. M. Prentice of Troy, a former pastor. The masonic service was read by David Spooner, John Weir, acting as chaplain. The body was placed in the vault at Hudson View cemetery and will be buried later at the Rural cemetery, near Albany. The pallbearers were Fred S. Clute, J.K. Woolsey, George Smith, George W. Clarke, George Morse and Newton T. Bryan.
