Mr. Bassett was born in New York City and came here from Seminole five years ago. He was a U.S. Army retired master sergeant, and served for 26 years, including during World War II in the African, Middle Eastern and European campaigns. He was a Presybterian. He is survived by daughters, Judith A. Bassett of Newberry and Sharon Malphurs of Alachua; a son, Donald W. Bassett of Deerfield Beach; sisters Sonia Visser of Ocala, Olga Stewart of New Hartford, New York; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
