Threatening
Egbert T. Bass was before the Mayor yesterday, charged with threatening to take the life of Thomas Bradford. Bradford swore that Bass had been to his house on two or three occasions, and used the most improper and threatening language in the presence of his wife and others. Bass stated that he had had business transactions with Bradford, in which he thought he had treated him very badly ? thought he was keeping out of the way. After repeated visits, he went there and said the first time he met him outside of the corporation one would have to whip the other. He regretted that, in the presence of Bradford?s wife, he had made use of the phrase ?son of a b?h.? (Bradford interrupting ?You said a d?n thieving son of a b?h?). Bass continued that he did not know a lady was present. He was willing to make any apology, so far as the lady was concerned, but he had none to make to Bradford. After further statements, by Daniel Hunt, Captain Bruce, and rejoinders by Bass, he was required to give security in the sum of three hundred dollars to keep the peace for twelve months.
