      Joel Bass

MEBANE, N.C. - Mr. Joel Bass, son of the late Buck Bass and the late Mimmie Daye Bass, began his journey in life in Rougemont, Person County, N.C. on Dec. 25, 1929. He was the oldest of eight children.

Joel's early education was received in the Person County Public School System and he graduated from Person County High School, Roxboro, N.C. He furthered his education in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was actively involved in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1954. Other institutions of higher education included North Carolina Central University in Durham and Wake Technical College in Raleigh.

On June 25, 1955 he was united in holy matrimony to Anna Isabell Morrow. This wonderful union lasted for 57 years until his departure on Dec. 4, 2012. They were blessed with two wonderful children.

He was particularly proud of the 18 years he served Alamance County and Burlington City Schools as Transportation Director.

Mr. Bass joined Siloam Baptist Church in Rougemont, N.C. in 1954. He attended Bethsada Baptist Church and other area churches when he moved to Mebane but remained a member of Siloam. He enjoyed the Christian fellowship and studying the word of God wherever he attended. Believing that everyone has a purpose in life, he felt that his was to help mold the lives of young adults. His life was one of service, dedication and love.

He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.
