Joel Bass
MEBANE, N.C. - Mr. Joel Bass, son of the late Buck Bass and the late Mimmie Daye Bass, began his journey in life in Rougemont, Person County, N.C. on Dec. 25, 1929. He was the oldest of eight children.
Joel's early education was received in the Person County Public School System and he graduated from Person County High School, Roxboro, N.C. He furthered his education in the U.S. Army, where he earned the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. He was actively involved in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on May 28, 1954. Other institutions of higher education included North Carolina Central University in Durham and Wake Technical College in Raleigh.
On June 25, 1955 he was united in holy matrimony to Anna Isabell Morrow. This wonderful union lasted for 57 years until his departure on Dec. 4, 2012. They were blessed with two wonderful children.
Mr. Bass was a man of many talents - a CNA at the VA Hospital in Durham, a mechanic at Quall's Repair Shop in Graham and Thompson Buick in West Roxbury, Mass., owner and operator of Bass Automotive in Stoughton, Mass., and automotive instructor at Wake Technical College in Raleigh. He was particularly proud of the 18 years he served Alamance County and Burlington City Schools as Transportation Director.
Mr. Bass joined Siloam Baptist Church in Rougemont, N.C. in 1954. He attended Bethsada Baptist Church and other area churches when he moved to Mebane but remained a member of Siloam. He enjoyed the Christian fellowship and studying the word of God wherever he attended. Believing that everyone has a purpose in life, he felt that his was to help mold the lives of young adults. His life was one of service, dedication and love.
He entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2012.
Cherishing his memory are his wife, Dr. Anna Morrow Bass; children, Karl O. Bass of Mebane and Karen F. Bass of Burlington; sister, Faye Bass of Durham; brother, Arnie Bass (Leola) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughter, Tabitha Lucille Bass; sisters-in-law, Nellie Oliver and Alice Morrow of Mebane; and brothers-in-law, William G. Morrow (Dorothy) of Durham and Jesse L. Morrow Jr. (Laura) of Mebane.
Joel was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends at McClure Funeral Home in Mebane, 1308 South Third Street, Friday, Dec. 7, from 6 to 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at Bethsada Baptist Church, 4338 Mebane-Oaks Road, Mebane, on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
