BASS, Miller Griffin Age 87 of Waverly, the retired General Manager after 26 years, 1963-1989, from the Humphreys County Utility District, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2011, at Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly, TN. Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Stewart Bass, Waverly, TN; daughter, Shirley Bass Link (Billy Hugh), New Johnsonville, TN; son, Buddy Bass, Knoxville, TN; 3 granddaughters, Becca Link Little (David), Waverly, TN, Amy Bass Kelley (David), Knoxville, TN, Heather Bass, Knoxville, TN; many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Frances Marie Scott Bass; parents, John Cullum and Lilly Norton Bass; siblings, Lois Nell Bass, Kadmus Cullum Bass, Alwilda Bass Dickens, Lawrence Earl Bass, Roy Bass, Andrew Bass, and Ralph Bass. He was born on August 11, 1923 in Lawrenceburg, TN. Mr. Bass was a graduate of Columbia Central High School Class of 1941, attended Nashville Blueprint College, served in the U. S. Navy WWII, from July 31, 1943 to February 7, 1946 on the U.S.S. Baretta, many careers including lumber, electrical, TVA, owner of multiple restaurants, natural gas, Real Estate Agent and Auctioneer. He was president of American Public Gas Association, president of Tennessee Gas Association, president of Humphreys Shriners, Al Menah Shriner, 50 year 32nd degree Free & Accepted Mason, Waverly Lodge #304, American Legion, member of the Waverly Elks Lodge, and past member of the Waverly Lions Club. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, March 29, 2011 from 5-8 p.m. Visitation on Wednesday, March 30, 2011, will be from 9:30 a.m. until funeral service time at 11 a.m. at the Luff-Bowen Funeral Home in Waverly. Rev. David Spencer and Rev. Horace Bass will be officiating. Interment will be in the Richlawn Cemetery in Waverly, TN. Pallbearers will be David Little, Jimmy Bass, Wayne Bass, David Wiser, Bud Bradley, Steve Hooper, Phillip Featherstone and Alton Hethcoat. Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present employees of Humphreys County Utility District. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the Waverly United Methodist Church Building Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
