Ethel Shook Bass
Mrs. Ethel Shook Bass, 84, the mother of former U. S. Congressman and Senator Ross Bass and also of Tennessee's new Welfare Commissioner Horace Bass, died Tuesday, January 28, at Donelson Hospital in Donelson, Tenn., after an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bass will be held at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, January 31, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Moss, the Rev. Hollis Hunt, and the Rev. J. Dallas Bass officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Born in Giles County near Scotts Hill on July 12, 1890, Mrs. Bass was the daughter of the late Fayette and Betty Yancy Shook Bass. Her husband, the Rev. W. A. Bass, Sr., died in 1942. She had been a long-time resident of Pulaski prior to her retirement to McKendree Manor in Nashville 2 � years ago.
Among Mrs. Bass survivors are two daughters, Mrs. E. V. McCarty of Columbia and Mrs. Nadine Grey of Atlanta, Ga.; 6 sons, James T. Bass of Macon, Ga., Lloyd Bass of Washington, D. C., Ross Bass of Pulaski, Ralph C. Bass of South Africa, W. A. Bass, Jr. of Nashville, and Horace Bass of Nashville; 23 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family of Mrs. Bass requests that memorial gifts be made to Martin College, McKendree Manor, or First United Methodist Church of Pulaski.
Bennett-May Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

NASHVILLE ? Mrs. Ethel Shook Bass, mother of State Welfare Commissioner Horace Bass, and former U.S. Sen. Ross Bass, died Tuesday of pneumonia.
Services will be Friday at First Methodist Church in Pulaski.
Mrs. Bass, 84, was the widow of Rev. W.A. Bass.
