Bass Succumbs To Long Spell of Illness Grandchildren Here During Sickness Long Time Citizen Is Buried With Due Honors Mr. W. A. Bass, pioneer of this section was buried Thursday afternoon at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Bass who came to Texas in 1893 settled in Gordonville and engaged in the mercantile business later moving to Whitesboro. Although he settled in Gordonville Mr. Bass has been considered a citizen of Whitesboro for the past 45 years. Mr. Bass came to Whitesboro ?? years ago and engaged in the mercantile business which at that time was the height of any man’s ambition. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge and was cared for as such. Pallbearers were Walter West, Roy MacDaniel, Riley Sloan, J.B. Cravens, Henry Thompson and Wilburn Esppenfield. Mr. Bass has been well known for years in this section as a farmer of well repute. Mr. Bass has made himself a real neighbor and a true friend to any one who needed his aid. He has shown himself to be a true friend in need, at all times, in any way. Funeral services were held in the family home at four o’clock Thursday, by Reverend Wm. D. Craig, Pastor of the Methodist Church, assisted by Reverend E.O. Whitwell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. Bass a retired farmer and merchant was born May 24, 1850 in Murphreesboro, Tennessee. He came to Grayson County 45 years ago settling at Gordonville. Three years later he moved to Whitesboro where he has lived since, occupying the house where he died for 29 years. He married Miss Ura Dinna Anderson October 11, 1875. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, serving as treasurer for more than 35 years. He was also a member of the I.O.O.F. and W.O.W. lodges of which he is a chosen member. He is also a member of the Methodist Church. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by two sons. He is survived by his wife; six sons, Frank, Bradley, Doc, Will, Walton and John; Grand children, Ray Bass, Larwni, Texas; Lotian Bass, Dallas; Francis Bass, Austin, Texas; Julia Bess Bass, Fort Worth. Mr. Bass during his term of years has proved himself to be a citizen of the highest standard. Mr. Bass has left behind a progeny that is considered among the best of the county and state.
