Gene was born in Oakdale, Pa., April 27, 1921. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Kightlinger, and father, Joseph E. Bass Sr. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Barnett Bass; sisters-in-law, Vaunden Bedford and Carole Rae Fontany; children, Joseph E. Bass III (Caroline), Raymond B. Bass (Doris), Connie Pietz (Greg) and Anita Tamargo (Frank); nine grandchildren; and five great-grand-children. Gene retired after 35 years from Tampa Electric. He was a World War II veteran, 32nd Degree Mason of Lodge 2 in Wellsburg, W.Va., a member of Scottish Rite, and Egypt Temple Shrine Tin Lizzie member. A viewing will take place 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave. Services will immediately follow the viewing. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Egypt Shrine Transportation Fund or Daughters of the Nile Convalescent Endowment Fund.
