Mrs. F.E. Bass Dies Suddenly
Prominent Lady Expires Of Rheumatism Of The Heart
The Funeral This Afternoon
Mrs. Fannie E. Bass, widow of the late John H. Bass, died yesterday morning at her home, Number 420 Eleventh Corner of Fifth Avenue, after a brief illness of rheumatism of the heart. She was taken ill only last Wednesday and before that time was seemingly in the best of health.
Her death was rather sudden and came as a great shock to her family and friends. The family suffered a great blow in Mrs. Bass’ death and they have deep sympathy of their many friends in their sad hours of bereavement. While she was not a member of any church, she was a noble woman, and died in the Christian faith.
Mrs. Bass was born October 23, 1834, and had she lived until next October would have been 70 years old. She was the daughter of the late Archibald C. Magruder, one of Chattahoochee county’s pioneers and most substiantial planters. She was married to the late John H. Bass on November 7th, 1854 and has lived in Columbus since her marriage. She is survived by one son and one daughter, Mrs. James A. Lewis, of this city, and Dr. Archibald C. Bass, also of this city. She also leaves one sister, Mrs. O.J. Fory of this city.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 3:30 o’clock, from her late residence at the corner of Eleventh Street and Fifth Avenue. The services will be conducted by Reverend Theodore Copeland, assisted by Reverend J.E. Wray. The interment will be at Linwood cemetery.
The following gentlemen will act as pallbearers: Messrs W.C. Bradley, John Blackmar, R.E. Farish, O.S. Jordan, L. C. Levy, C.A. Lovelace, Dr. George J. Grimes and Capt. J.J. Slade.
